At Icarus Engineering Services we know how important it is to make a house into a home. Whether it is building a new structure, remodeling an existing structure, making an addition, or developing a subdivision our priority is to provide the engineering services necessary to complete the project in a safe and efficient way that suits each customer’s specific needs and desires. Some (but not all) of the most common residential services that we offer are listed below:

N

Structures

Proper design and analysis of the structure to be built, or an existing structure, is the key component to ensuring that the structure will withstand the test of time and be a worthwhile investment. As with anything in life, a firm foundation is where each structural project begins. Depending on factors such as the soil bearing capacity, structure dimensions, site hydrology, and seasonal conditions each foundation must be individually designed to be as effective as possible and meet local building codes. From there the structure can be designed in a way to withstand snow and wind loads, increase energy efficiency, optimize solar exposure, and maximize the value of the structure on the lot. We take pride in our work and strive for excellence on each and every project.

N

Additions

Additions come in all shapes and sizes and are made for many different reasons. In any case, an addition is an opportunity for the property owner to customize and personalize their home. We provide customized engineering services to meet the needs of those seeking to make this type of investment in their home. We strive to ensure that each customer is more than satisfied with their addition by making each project functional, structurally sound, efficient, compatible with existing structures, and meet local building codes. To do this we will review the local soil conditions, site hydrology, seasonal conditions, and various other factors in order to establish a firm foundation. Then we will focus on ensuring that the structure is sound enough to withstand the various conditions that it will be exposed to. Once the structure and foundation are sound, we can begin to optimize the design for the various needs of each client.

N

Site Design

We provide analysis and design of the surrounding property that the project rests on. The site should be functional, passcode, and be great to look at. We examine the hydrology/hydraulic needs, grading, parking, ingress/egress, as well as landscaping. We work with each customer to meet their individual criteria to ensure their ideas become reality.

N

Drainage Analysis

We provide an analysis of a given property or structures exposed to water and consequently the drainage needs of the project. Our analysis includes a review of rainfall drainage capacity, large stormwater handling capacity, as well as solutions such as retention ponds, stormwater systems, etc.

N

Utilities

Utilities are a constant need in today’s world. To properly utilize services such as water, sewer, electric, storm drains, etc. it is necessary that 1 – each connection to these utilities is designed according to local building codes to ensure the safety of the public, and 2 – that the utilities themselves are designed with the capacity and functionality needed to service the expected number of users. We design utilities with both the consumer and producer in mind and can provide designs as needed for individuals, subdivisions, or upgrading existing facilities to service a larger demand.

N

Retaining Walls

We provide design and analysis services for retaining walls as needed for both decorative and structural purposes. Retaining walls are subject to many forces other than just that of the material being retained such as hydraulic pressure from rainfall, saturated soil forces, freeze-thaw cycles, thermal expansion and contraction, and working loads. Each of these will be considered and incorporated in the design of the retaining walls as requested
